ABOUT THIS BOOK

This book is a Cruising Guide for yachtsmen and no attempt has been made to include any of the history of Ukraine or its politics. This information is available from the many travel books on the Country.

In Summer 2000 Okura cruised the coast from Feodosia to Izmail and from the notes made this book has been compiled. The coast from Mariupol through the Sea of Azov to Kerch and Feodosia was excluded as it has little to offer the cruising yachtsmen except to those entering the Black Sea from the White Sea by the Volga and Don rivers. The ancient sites worth seeing around Kerch can be visited by bus from Feodosia.

The maps in sections of the book indicate the position of each harbour or anchorage. The starting point of the Cruise was Feodosia and the book commences with this port.

For each port there is a short resume and a chartlet. Completing the information about the ports and anchorages is a table with the necessary details and a short piece about the town or village giving details of things to see there or in the surrounding area, and a street plan where relevant.

To makes things easier streets have been named in the street plans as Main Street, where it all happens, and Shopping, where the shops are.

As harbour plans were not available the chartlets have been drawn on Okura with the information as seen in Summer 2000. The scales of the chartlets differs.

The GPS positions given in this book are as read directly from the GPS receiver. The Datum used is WGS 84.

All bearing are given as True and all depths are in metres.

Throughout the cruise there was no necessity to use an agent at any port. Costs of an agent if employed are unknown. There was no charge for any formalities.

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this book. The harbour plans were drawn on site and there may be some minor discrepancies between the chartlets and official plans if they can be found.

In a Country where progress is now fast, rules and regulations relative to visiting yachts may change.
